School

Our School has a rich and varied history.
We celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2008.
Learn how it all began and how it has developed into the school it is today.

Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa was established in the parish of Huntstown in 1983 with two teachers on staff. At this time, Huntstown was a distant suburb of the city and there are teachers on staff who can still recall the first Dublin Bus service to begin in the area. Mr John Lynch took on the leadership of the school. Since then the area has experienced dramatic changes as the local community has steadily increased. The school has responded admirably to these changes and there are now over 50 members of staff and a student body of almost 900. The school is co-educational under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin.

In 2006 the opening of a new school building heralded the beginning of a new chapter in the school’s history and has expanded the opportunities for the whole school community. A modern ICT room, expansive gym amenities and a rejuvenated library are among the new facilities now available in the school. The old prefabricated classrooms were removed and playing fields and extra yard space were developed. Amidst this rapid pace of change the ethos of the school has remained constant. We aim to provide a nurturing environment in which all children will grow and develop so that they can extend the spirit of respect and tolerance that characterises our community.

The school operates under the Irish seanfhocal 'Ní neart go cur le chéile', which embodies the dynamic unity and reciprocity of the school community. The school has led the way in capturing the true spirit of multicultural education. Almost 40% of the school population claims international heritage. Children and families from over 40 different countries are represented in the school. Through the careful weaving of cultures, histories and experiences, we have proven that we can provide an inclusive and enjoyable learning experience for everyone.
